WORK WITH WHAT YA GOT

Now most eyes may glaze over a middle-of-nowhere decrepit junkyard with cars and trucks haphazardly strewn about, broken windshields and tortured metal groaning with the echoes of unknown traumas. However, when viewed through YFS goggles, it was nothing an earth mover and hundreds of man hours couldn’t solve. El Junka was an authentic WTF moment for not only the YFS family but also the world at large, our wildest fancies made manifest, a place where broken trash became artistry and truth. An arc of double-stacked vehicular husks served as the homer boundary, enclosing a mud-packed playing surface sprinkled with surprise spark plugs and glass shards, all kissed by a vast oceanic vista and swirling high-pressure offshore winds. Sure it may have broken a rib or two, but pain, like beauty, is fleeting. Today El Junka is again nothing more than a ruinous scrap heap, belying its one shining moment where it became our center of the universe. Vaya con Dios, mi amigo.
